Certified Sustainable is a training program designed to build organizational capacity and make Sacramento County’s nonprofit sector more effective, powerful and impactful. It is a 10-month cohort program with 12 months of technical assistance and access to training. Graduation is comprised of a written sustainability plan for each participating organization.
Impact Foundry’s Director of Capacity Building, Tiffany Rosso, MNA leads participant engagement of the Certified Sustainable program. Impact Foundry lead staff and key faculty members will facilitate topic-specific training on the Five Key Focus Areas of: Revenue Structure; Operational Framework; Nonprofit Brand & Community Engagement; Cultural Responsiveness; and Change Management.
Revenue Structure – Measures of financial health including funding diversity, innovation in generating resources, cash on hand, and income risk calculation. Diversified revenue structures better allow organizations to weather economic downturns and build resources for un-/under-funded mission critical work.
Operational Framework – Financial management, operational infrastructure and investment, including data, along with clear policies and procedures help organizations align resources to ensure success and growth. These strengths ensure the technical capacity to implement programmatic and organizational strategies.
Nonprofit Brand & Community Engagement – Being sustainable with our brand means it attracts supporters and collaborative opportunities. In order to achieve these outcomes, organizations need to develop, implement and maintain a marketing and external communications plan that articulates impact, engages volunteers and community partners, and ensures the Board of Directors provide meaningful leadership and support.
Cultural Responsiveness – Addressing the persistent social and structural disadvantages for people of color requires organizational leadership to address conversations of race and equity. By learning and practicing strategies to achieve better outcomes in service delivery, increase stability in the workforce, foster better relationships with partners and community, organizations ensure their long-term social responsibility.
Change Management – Being adaptive includes the ability to notice and respond to internal and external changes; and leadership means we can sustain a vision, make decisions, inspire others, and innovate to fulfill our mission.
