Description, Compensation and Benefits:

POSITION DESCRIPTION The Community Health Educator gets Sacramento County residents engaged and excited about healthy eating. As a member of our Health & Nutrition team, Community Health Educators teach workshops about nutrition and physical activity.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

The Community Health Educator is responsible for the following tasks (including but not limited to):

  • Assist with program logistics for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services’ Health & Nutrition efforts. Including, facilitating single and multi-session nutrition education workshops, performing follow-up interviews with participants and graduates, conducting nutrition outreach at community events, creating outreach materials, overseeing volunteers, and developing and maintaining relationships with community-based organizations where nutrition education workshops can be taught
  • Attend Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services’ staff meetings and recommended trainings, keep accurate records of program activities, assist with other Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services programs and activities as needed, participate in community outreach events (workshops and outreach events will occur throughout Sacramento County)
  • Complete and maintain food handler certification

  • High school graduate (or GED)
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups, professional demeanor, flexible and able to respond to multiple demands
  • Ability to work with a diverse community, teach classes with mixed ages present, work independently with limited supervision, respond to unanticipated events, maintain accurate records
  • Safely lift or carry items weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Detail-oriented, good written and verbal communication skills and ability to multi-task
  • Reliable transportation and a valid California driver’s license and insurance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)

  • Experience teaching nutrition workshops and/or leading cooking demonstrations
  • Has received services from Sacramento County, SFBFS or one of SFBFS’ Partner Agencies
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish (written and verbal)
  • Passion for nutrition

Location: Both Food Bank Services and Family Services campus’; in an office setting
Full-time; non-exempt hourly position. Monday – Friday with occasional weekends, nights and holidays. Hours may vary depending on workshop or outreach schedule.
