Tools and Resources For Your Organization

Resources, blogs, articles, and workshop hands outs curated to give you the tools you need to increase your organization’s impact.

Advocacy

You need to be concerned with Advocacy

Regardless of awareness advocacy is a very important issue for you. Your advocacy is making your support or opposition to some policy public. Nonprofits are impacted by many policy areas, from tax code changes to laws and regulations that impact your mission. Nonprofits that work to clean our public spaces may have strong opinions on potential changes to State Park funding. Nonprofits dealing with education may have strong opinions on school choice. The combinations are endless. But do you know how to engage? And do you know the state and region laws that regulate the manner that nonprofits can lobby? Are you clear on the difference between engaging as an area expert versus a lobbyist? Members can check out the workshop material below, and everyone is welcome to browse our extensive set of resources. If you have a specific question regarding advocacy feel free to click Ask A Question and pose your question to our staff or request a workshop.

Philanthropy

PHILANTHROPY

Philanthropy can be defined in many complex ways.  Here is one definition:

A Greek term which directly translated means “love of mankind.” Philanthropy is an idea, event, or action that is done to better humanity and usually involves some sacrifice as opposed to being done for a profit motive. Acts of philanthropy include donating money to a charity, volunteering at a local shelter, or raising money to donate to cancer research.

Although philanthropy has some commonalities with charitynot all charity is philanthropy, although there will be overlap.  This section offers thoughts and research on the role of philanthropy in the nonprofit sector.
