$1M for 2018 TOT Grant Program

​The County Board of Supervisors will provide $1 million through the 2018 TOT Grant Program to support nonprofit organizations located in Sacramento County that carry out community-based programs and/or services in the areas of economic and workforce development, arts and culture, community development, or ​health and human services.  The County began setting aside funding for this purpose in 2017.

Grants will be allocated through a competitive process and applicants must meet eligibility​ and funding requirements. Applications will be accepted online beginning June 4 through the County’s Office of Economic Development with a deadline of July 10, 2018.
Funding for the TOT Grant Program will come from County Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenues. Transient Occupancy Taxes are levied on guests who occupy rooms in hotels, motels and other temporary lodging accommodations in the unincorporated area of the County.
2018 TOT Grant Program Application Deadline and Notification Dates
Grant DEADLINE: July 10, 2018, 5:00 p.m.
Grant Application Period
June 4 – July 10, 2018
  • ​All applications and documentation requested in announcement must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on July 10, 2018.
  • Online Applications Only: all applications are only accepted electronically:  Apply online beginning June 4.
  • Duplicate and incomplete applications will be disqualified.
  • Applicants will receive electronic receipt notification upon submission.
 
Grant Application Review Period 
July 11 – 30, 2018: Economic Development staff will review applications for completeness and compliance with minimum eligibility requirements. Applicants will be notified electronically if proposals meet the minimum qualifications. Qualifying organizations will receive the Board of Supervisors Hearing schedule where final recommendations and approval will be made in September, 2018.
August 2018:
Subject Area Expert Panel Application Review: Subject area experts will review, evaluate, and rank qualifying applications and may contact organizations with follow-up questions.
Grant Program Hearing Notification: Applicants will receive a second electronic notification of schedule for the Board of Supervisors Hearing where recommended award selections will be made.
Grantee Award Approval
September 2018:​
The Board of Supervisors will make the final determination and approval for all TOT Grant Program recipients. 
Economic Development will notify applicants of funding selections within 5 business days of Board Hearing approval. All notifications will be made electronically.
Economic Development will draft and administer agreements between the County and grantees.

About Brad

Brad brings over 20 years of executive leadership in both the for-profit and non-profit sector. As a technology entrepreneur, he has helped to launch several enterprise software startups, one of which he led as Co-Founder and Vice President from 2002 through to its exit in 2016. He brings a people-centered style of leadership that leads to healthy organizational culture. He enjoys developing systems, strategy, and structure that set the foundation for organizations to scale and grow. Brad is considered a purpose-driven person and always seeks to “start with why” in everything he gets involved with. 
 
Beyond the enterprise technology roles he’s held, Brad was also instrumental in launching several community-based social entrepreneurship endeavors. He is the founder of the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank, Orangevale Food Bank Farm, HART of Orangevale and Fair Oaks, and the Big Day of Service. He also served as President of the Orangevale Chamber of Commerce from 2018-2022 where his impact led to a re-energized business and nonprofit membership community. Under his leadership, the Chamber secured $10M funding from SACOG for Greenback Lane streetscape improvements, 3x membership growth, 5x budget growth, formation of the Orangevale Community Council, and a more vibrant culture throughout the community. Brad currently serves on the boards of several other nonprofit organizations in the Capital Region. 
 
Brad currently serves as the Executive Director for Social Venture Partners of Sacramento, an organization seeking to build nonprofit connections and capacity by bringing together leaders from the business and nonprofit community. He oversees partnership growth strategy, daily operations, portfolio engagement, and major events such as the annual Fast Pitch social innovation program.
 
In 2018, Brad and family also launched a 10-acre u-pick flower farm called Heirloom Acres Farm. Thousands of people visit their farm all summerlong for flower u-pick events, and they also host a holiday barn market and have Christmas trees available in December. 
 
Brad’s superpower and life mission is about bringing people together for a purpose. He believes our community will be stronger when leaders are connected and engaged.
